Couple ideas (these are all things I do): drink lots of fluid - you have to go to the bathroom, find random spots you can stand and work, grab a coffee or drink every 3 hours, call SO around 6 and talk / walk for 10 minutes, work out in the morning, and last, and most sadly, this is normal-get used to it.
I average probably 12 hours at a desk a day and I make it work pretty well.
Being a good consultant doesn't mean no lunch breaks.... But no lunch breaks does mean bad management. Def escalate to counselor. Lack of analysts/consultants escalating on shitty managers over the years is why the culture is so bad right now!
Yeah. Get out of Deloitte
Your manager is power tripping. Get out ASAP
Your manager is a douche.
Just take a break. If you're manager has a problem with that bring it up with your counselor
Welcome to the workforce..... find little ways to take breaks but I haven't had a lunch hour since I graduated college
Yes, set boundaries and everyone will respect them. I rarely do working lunches and my team takes coffee breaks.
Not asking for a full hour, just maybe 15-30 mins to eat and unplug given the fact that work is slow and I'll still go beyond the necessary hours
No, sitting at your desk for 12hrs without any break is NOT normal. People telling you that or telling you to be tougher are other analysts who don't know how to set boundaries. Take breaks, breathing time. Stretch, walk around for a bit. If your manager asks you tell him this makes you to be more productive. Most managers shouldn't have any issue with thatz
You're an adult and have control over your own breaks as you need them. No one, including your manager, cares as long as they don't overlap with your works or meetings or are not excessive.
People will take what they can from you. I found that the more I made reasonable demands for travel times, working from home, use of PTO, even telling an MD I was busy with client work and could I work on that nonchargeable thing tomorrow, the more I did stuff like that within reason, people respected it.
If you don't value your own time no one else will.
I used to take a break around 3 pm, go downstairs, and do two laps around the block. Helped me to think more clearly. Also, the stairwell is another great place to secretly get some exercise/chill
9 hours! That's the halfway mark.
Get a standing desk. Boom.

Just step out and take a walk every now and then. Lunch can be a tough one if it's not the team culture. I personally always prefer to take lunch, but my PPD right now is a bit of an a... 😐 sorry, got off topic. Take breaks throughout the day, don't assume that because your manager doesn't get up that they care if you do.
In the morning, tell your manager you need to run an errand at lunch, won't take more than 30 minutes. Ask if there is anything she needs you to complete before you leave. Don't make it a question of "can I leave." You are being a professional by letting her know you will be unavailable and you want to accommodate anything she may need done. If she says you can't leave at any time, ask her to put it in an email.
Every once in a while I consider applying for deloitte for that sweet salary bump... then I swiftly get reminded of how coushiny I currently have it. Op want a referral?
