I personally enjoy being in the office, however, to answer your question; Micro management disguised as “office camaraderie.” Doesn’t make much financial sense to demand in office work imo.
Work in government (local). Apparently folks “missed the hustle and bustle of the government at work (in office)” + managing attorney “can’t tell what everyone is doing if they aren’t in the office.” 😬
It is easier to collaborate as a team when everyone is in person. It’s easier to have impromptu team meetings. Training is more difficult when the team isn’t together. It facilitates team building.
All the reasons I’ve heard is centered around the team. We are a trial firm, so I think there is some logic behind it, although I’m sure a hybrid policy would be effective as well. Personally, I am much more productive in the office, and it’s easier for me to separate work from my personal life when my two lives have different physical locations. It’s not for everyone, but it works for me.
That makes sense. I’m on a team of other attorneys, but none of our work overlaps. So most visiting in my office is just chatter to fill the space. And a whole lot of people stopping by to see if you got the email they forwarded minutes ago, and if you’d like to go to the office of the email sender to discuss.
No. No I do not want to reply to anyone’s non-urgent email (that I did not read yet) in person. *facepalm*

In my shop it was because of support staff productivity dropping off a cliff, response time tripling, “oh my camera isn’t working”, not answering calls after 3pm
Try working from home when your little one comes home from school....not easy. There is something to be said for working at work and being with the family when home.
I would buy this if my job actually let me be at home when I was home. Instead it’s ‘be in the office when we want and be available whenever you’re not in the office.’
Because the webcam and spyware tracker are a little buggy.
Bunch of boomers who think that WFH means “no working”.
So they can see people working I suppose. Although the press release reason is for office culture, camaraderie, and efficiency
Because they said so

I was never given a reason. Was just simply told no wfh and was not something I could negotiate. My name partners are 80 years old and live at the office, so that's the mindset I'm dealing with.
Face-time with the attorneys in the office, which I’m happy for after my last spot where I saw my managing partner once every couple months.
