I’ve never seen something like what AA1 described in LA. 90% of originating fees is super high even with no base. Not sure how the firm can be profitable if they’re paying all the overhead and salary for staff. Usually you get a base plus 5-10% fee participation of all cases and maybe 30% of originating. The originating percentage thing is very firm dependent. My firm advertises so they don’t really value cases brought in by attorneys that much, especially ones that come with a referral fee to another attorney. Unless it’s a really big case they see it as just taking up attorney time and making them less money. Obviously firms that get most of their cases from referrals value attorney originations a lot more.
Not in LA but I’m a defense attorney and was just offered by a plaintiffs firm. Offer was no base with 90% of revenue from my own cases and 75% of revenue of cases assigned to me brought in by someone else.
No base? Did you end up accepting the offer?
I did not. Not in a position where I can take that risk. Seemed like it’d be mostly on me to find my own cases.
A1, that was very helpful. Thank you!!
