I have an initial recruiter phone interview with Square Thursday. Is it it just a phone call or is it a video call and they didn’t specify. If it’s a video call what’s the dress code like? I’m coming from consulting so all my interviews were in suits. Any tips to get past the recruiter phone screen?
Rejected without interview with a referral. Ugh

Moved to be closer to family (in-laws) and the help with raising kids is invaluable. Good food and decent housing (mortgage is about the same given high property taxes).
Regrets include lack of diversity as people in Texas stay in their respective clicks. I miss my circle of friends from college and early career days. Lesser educated people here (despite their degrees they are uneducated), and lack of outdoor activities. I miss the eastern states a lot, but life is all about give and takes. Lastly please don’t move here thinking it is cheap, as it is not. You pay a lot in property taxes, tolls and sales taxes. My net spend is the same and in some instances higher than what we had in DC, VA, NJ. NY, MA etc.
MD1-To be frank, many of us stick to our circles because out of towners tend to try to stick us in the “Texas box” or because although we’ve seen other places and know how thing work, we value how things are here.
Where are you in Texas? If you are in or around metro Houston, it is one of the most global cities in the country. Sheer amenities and population make Dallas not too far behind (although Houston and Austin still have better food).
Depending on where you are, while some of the things you are talking about are real barriers (e.g., people who have never left) your perspective (e.g., “lesser global cities”) may also be contributing to your experience. Think of it as a both / and type of situation.
Having said that, I wish you the best in finding your circle.
It’s a great place to live except the Texas heat (Dallas here)
Very diverse mix of people and culture, and food is just 🤩🤩
Life ain’t that cheap as people love to claim but it’s a nice place overall
Agree BCG1. Plano is going great in food options.

Texas is proudly and defiantly undermining rights of women and BIPOC. I moved here a decade ago and am now contemplating leaving. From the assault on voting rights to the recent abortion bounty law, Texas is out of touch and is damaging the lives and health of its residents. Let’s not forget the monumental failure of the state’s electrical grid that led to the death of over 50 people who froze in their homes in February this year. This is in Austin. It is supposed to be a liberal niche in a big red state. Greg Abbott threatened to arrest Democratic legislators who left the state to prevent a quorum on a suppressive voting rights bill. The ridiculousness of Texan republicans should not be discounted when considering a move here.
Ah the classic things that impact more to me are more important defence. It's alright if you think women issues are not as important as economic issues but that doesn't mean they are not important. I am sure you can cherry pick things about Europe to support your argument (true Europe has similar policies about immigration but the care about their citizens by providing them Healthcare, access to education and laws that save them),republican legislators are driving vaccine hesitancy and not allowing mask mandates. I am sure you can say that but but but what about freedom of choice which matters more to me.
And abortion is legal until week 6 (most of the women don't even know that they are pregnant. It's the most restrictive rule, I guess rank 50 for women health is not too far.
Austin. I regret it because Bro Rogan and his boys started moving into town. Now my local bar is filled with conspiracy theories.

You already had Alex Jones before Bro Rogan moved in…
Dallas. To get away from insane liberals who love over-zoning and propping up their property values artificially. Also, to get away from people who can’t seem to understand basic economics as they destroy their states.

I’m an international, lived in Asia, Latin America… some eastern states in US and then 4 years in Texas. Low living costs, but did not like Texas (agree on lack of diversity, very Texan and local, no outdoor, really hot summer…). Moved to CA, yes… expensive and high cost, but really enjoy CA, worth it
Moved to Dallas post MBA. We did it to be closer to her parents and the low s cost of living
Having just spent an unplanned day stuck in Dallas, please and no thank you. I’ve never had a shittier travel experience courtesy of the other passengers
