For those who waited awhile before obtaining a new litigation attorney position, after you received your welcome letter from the firm and started working, was there an adrenaline rush and motivation to work long hours? If so, how long did you sustain the motivation to work those hours? At what point did you believe that your average hours per month were ok, allowing you to relax or stress less?

Less about motivated to work long hours, and more about getting your arms wrapped around everything before the real fire-drills start.

When that alarm goes off: you want to slide down the pole straight into your boots and jump on the truck; you don’t want to be asking “hey guys where do we keep the fireproof stuff?”

Can I ask, how many cases were you juggling at that time? That’s one concern I have.

It also took me about 3 months before that adrenaline rush fizzled out. I made a good impression on the partners and then started setting boundaries for myself.

like

And in setting those boundaries, was it a gradual process (more light delegation to others, less stress on yourself) or was it a situation where your impression on the partners was so great that you felt comfortable saying to them “Thank you, partners. Now going forward, my availability on the weekends will be limited from this point forward”?

I think so. After about 3 months I settled down once I built up my workload and felt comfortable with the hours/work coming in. For what it’s worth I lateraled as a senior attorney to an amlaw 100 firm.

That’s good to know. Thank you. I’ll keep that in mind.
