I despise having to experience this! I am going through the same, but the difference is, is that I am leading this team. I have been encouraging, I have taught them, I have trained them. I just want to know why do I get pushed back on holding them accountable for doing the essential functions of their job?

That is lazy and irresponsible of management to take that position on such an easy problem to solve. Set expectations and hold them accountable. Start disciplining them if need be, to set a precedent that everyone is held to the same standard

That's just part of having a job, there will always be slackers goofing off and making extra work for the rest of us. Some people devote their days to finding new ways to be lazy. The trick to dealing with them is to let them foul up and sink themselves.

Imagine, if you will, getting punished -through demotion and pay reduction- for simply attempting to hold people in a food service environment accountable for abandoning the production line in the middle of a rush.
We are managed through incompetence and objective favoritism, NOT with competence and objective standards, as it should be.
