Got a job offer at a law school after being five years out. Anyone do this this early in their career? Unsure whether this would prevent me from going back to actual practice if I miss the work/money (whether at a firm or in house) so not sure what to do

What’s the role? A professor? Or an admin? It could be a career limiter (or just a different path than private practice) as a 5th year depending on what you’re doing.

like

Not a professor, appreciate the insight.

I would only consider that if you know with certainty that you will never need law firm money.

4 years out and am leaving to become a (tenure track) law professor. I don’t personally want to go back to (private) practice though.

Thanks!

I was approached on LinkedIn for an early career recruiting role in DFW, TX. I don't have direct experience, but I have the university experience/connections from working in career services. This is the first time I've considered work outside of higher education. I said my salary expectations are minimum $90k and that didn't seem to be an issue. Am I asking too little, too much? How can I know I'm getting the best salary and not just settling at the low end of the range?

I was one of the big firm stealth layoffs in covid and joined a boutique firm in Sept. They came sort of close to matching my salary but I moved to SoCal and have an opportunity to jump back in to big law and get $100k raise. The people at the small firm are so nice, but hours are nuts and if I’m going to work this much, I might as well get paid more, right? Is it too soon?
