Has anyone else had a coworker or boss who frequently use their kids as the reason they can’t take on a task or being late? I totally get that we all have personal responsibilities—kids or no kids—but in this industry, our plates are always overflowing, and it’s frustrating when someone uses that as a constant excuse. We’re all juggling a lot. Anyone else dealt with this or have tips on how to handle it?

We’re not all juggling a lot, some people juggle more than others. Are they impacting your performance or work load?

Well, maybe I should say most of us, since I would presume that finance is a pretty competitive industry, especially in the current environment. It definitely impacts my workload. If someone on the team can’t take on tasks, those responsibilities fall on the rest of us, even when our plates are already full. And if they do take on the task but can’t complete it, we’re the ones left scrambling to put out the fire.

I feel one can kind of tell when someone is just using that as an excuse versus they are en extremely busy person. I do not have kids and I do not like the sense of superiority that if you do you are a different class of human who is suddenly so much more important. Of course your children are more important to you than your job, but that's not for your job to sort. If you can't make it to do your responsibilities and be as available as you'd like, you're in the wrong job! I'll give a little grace or like if someone is responsible about it like a boss who says I always leave at 5p on the dot to be with family, do not schedule meetings later in the day. But suddenly being all over the place and dropping the ball, no that's just not professional.

I do agree - I have kids and whilst it is difficult, so many other people have kids too. It’s definitely not an excuse to drop the ball. I log off early and log back in the evenings, I’m also clear about what my red lines are I.e. I need some notice for meetings outside normal work hours to arrange childcare. However, I think this should be a courtesy given to anyone really.

Seeking advice: I am a young sales consultant and sales engineer working for a tech startup company. I have 6 years of sales experience. And I have been helping run my family business for the past 10 years. I was intially interviewed for a senior account executive position at a $70k offer. Instead they told me I needed more training and hired me as a Junior account executive at a $50k salary + commission. Today is my 6th month mark and I have done very well. And no talks of a promotion / raise..

Hi everyone, I got hired on as entry level sales operations role back in January. It quickly turned into sales, and eventually all the sales for the small company once the head of sales left. I am happy to take on the additional role for my company, and they are going to let me. But they feel that without multiple people in a sales department the title head of sales might not be the best title. I have input in what my updated position title and salary would be. What should I ask for?

LMAO what do Afro Latinos look like? I just asked a creative to include more pictures of Afro-Latinos in our hispanic messaging and she said "I tried to find pictures of videos that looked authentic but they didn't have the right look, it's a very specific look". So no black people in the ad cause this white passing lady needs to gate keep who looks latina enough. The blond, blue eyed women in the photos passed though... UGHH.

Curious what people's age ranges for dating are. There's the classic "half your age plus seven" rule, but wondering if that's actually followed.
