Has anyone ever use contact paper on lab tables? Or do you have other suggestions? Our tables at school are very old and beat up, not just dirty and written on;several have large gouges. I would also like to mark a “phone parking “ spot on each table.

Have had to sand down my 30+ year old tables. Got a great lab-table brush-on acid resistant filler-coating from “one of our common” science supply companies. Best summer time effort while prepping for new year.
Reason, district keeps trying to put folding leg conference tables in as lab tables! Will not consider purchasing new lab tables.

Contact paper is like a giant sticker to kids, I can’t keep it down. The expectation is there and most do not peel it, but there are a few with no self-control.

I wonder if the tables can be sanded down and then covered with epoxy?

Yes, it is a summer break project. I have sanded 35-year old tables and used heat/chem resistant liquid from one of our big science suppliers to seal the tops. Do a third of tables each summer.
My Bay Area district will not fund a lab set of proper lab tables.
Standing joke in my district is when the STEM buildings became STEAM buildings and they wanted to put the gas supply on rolling carts in the designated chemistry spaces.

At what point are you too specialized to lateral to internal audit? Today's high point in my chemistry class: I am teaching Atomic theory and structure. I have my students look at their periodic table and I walk through the information listed for each element. At this point I talk about a lot of big ideas that are related as an prelude to where we are headed. One student told me that she took chemistry last year, and in 10 minute I was able to connect all of the pieces that never made any sense to her. Her 'aha's moment was like candy to me.

Hello. My district is currently remote (virtual) and I am teaching a chemical reactions unit. Usually, this is a hands on unit. I cannot do hands-on labs for equity reasons. My district does not have subscriptions to any science lab simulation sites at the middle school level. We use the NGSS. We are standards based grading and I can only grade the stand MS-PS1-2. Anyone have suggestions on free simulations I can use? I teach synchronously to my students 2 classes (2 hours total ) each week.
