I’ve used gizmos for a few years. I liked it pre CoVid. Now I’m loving it for an alternative to hands on labs. The worksheets are not, for my students, conducive to independent work, but I make videos going through the sim and how to complete the worksheet without giving answers. That’s been helpful.
We purchased Gizmos last year, and I think they are awesome! The cool thing is the graphs populate as the experiment happens so students can see what that graph actually represents. It also allows students to play around with the settings to see "what happens." The worksheets that go with the gizmos are editable, so you can change the questions and activities to suit your students. One of my favorites are the experiment with plants and different variables-i think it's light, fertilizer, and maybe soil? The other favorite is one for photosynthesis/respiration where students have to find the right combination of elodea and snails to keep the snails alive!
I've used it as a "student" but my district hasn't bought it. The photosynthesis lab was pretty good - We could change all sorts of variables to test different hypotheses. I think you'll like it, based on my limited experience.
Love Gizmos! Most students do, too, including some that are never engaged in anything. Now that they have the student exploration sheets available for distance learning, it's even better.
I like them! They now have the worksheets as Google Docs! Game changer!!!
I love using gizmos. Especially when I taught physics, chemistry and biology. Harder to find for Anatomy but still using them and really enjoy. Plus all gizmos are now HTML 5 converted, no longer flash player required, works on Google chrome
I like them! Google doc lab reports are helpful and they give students valuable hands in during virtual. The students think they are hard because they have to tinker.
OMG! I love it love it love it!!! Kids can test variables, identify patterns/trends, connect cause and effect, and form conclusions.
