Hi everyone! The Environmental Education Collaborative in Southern California is hosting an online symposium Feb 25-28 (after school and weekend hours) and we would love to have you. Our topics this year include Justice, Literacy and Wellness. Let me know if you have any questions, I'll be leading a "Bob Ross" style painting session on the Wellness day that teaches the steps of the water cycle while incorporating SEL strategies. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2021-environmental-education-symposium

Mark, have you decided what kinds of club activities you will do? Are you looking for ideas?
Years ago I taught a summer enrichment program on rocketry/flight. We started with basic concepts of flight. We taught them about bernoulli's principle to explain lift. We also discussed lift using hot air. The campers made water bottle rockets. They used foam core poster board to make fine. Then we used a bicycle pump to build pressure so it would build pressure and create thrush to launch the rockets. Your students could experiment with fin design, change the amount of water in the rocket. Then we built an Estes rocket, and launched those. Some of these may sound too elementary, but even as an adult, I enjoyed these hands on activities
You can start by holding an informational meeting and get them excited about it. Have an end of the year event that highlights everything you do as a club. Talk to an administrator in charge of activities and find out how to apply, for my school it’s written by-laws, an application, and approval from the ASB. Organize the club with a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The President and Vice-President plans and holds the meetings, the Secretary takes meeting minutes and the treasurer plans fund raisers and counts the money and makes deposits. Hold meetings with just these executives before general meetings and make sure they have an agenda and if they need any support. Good luck Mr. Ludwig, I think you have a great idea to get kids excited about Science and Rocketry.
There are programs like Odyssey of the Mind, Science Olympiad, LEGO Robotics programs or other STEM programs that could give you a head start.
