Look into RAGBRAI. It's a bike ride every July across the state of Iowa. The route changes every year and you don't have to do the full week
Yep! Pittsburgh to Cumberland on the GAP (~150 miles), Cumberland to DC on the C&O Canal trail (~185 miles)
There are tons of good events like Gran Fondos and charity rides. My favorite is The Ride For Mental Health. It's a great cause, beautiful route, good people and overall excellent support.
I think a larger event that is well known would be Gran Fondo NY. I have done that 3 times and it is a lot of fun. A bit crowded but very cool ride. Do it at least once if in the area.
If you want something harder and like gravel look into Lu Lacka Wyca Hunda. It is in 2 weeks so would say next year unless you are really ready.
Most centuries these days, I just do with a few friends.
Every race or ride will have an elevation file and elevation will dictate the difficulty. From what I’ve done, the more aide stations the more chill the ride.
You’ll get to a point where 100 miles is a weekend training ride. On the longer ride, nutrition is key! We’re talking 5-7 hours and you’ll “blow up” or “crack” if you don’t hydrate and eat correctly.
Send a city or some kind of a location and happy to search for ya.
Very good tips, thank you!! I'm in DC, though totally open to traveling somewhere for a fun ride (especially considering this area gets unbearably humid!)
I did the Apple Cider Century in southern Michigan and enjoyed that. Curious to see other recommendations!
What part of the country do you live in?
Love the Apple cider century and think it’s very well run and beautiful and fun.
Look for Rails-to-trails
Withlacoochee Trail has two century (or lesser distance options) every year. One ride is in October and one around February. One benefits Rails-to-Trails ( this trail) and one benefits a charity.
It’s Florida - so there are only a few hills - but the rides are fun. Lots of people, lots of pit stops, lots of fun. And it’s a gorgeous trail/ beautiful ride.

I did a back to back centuries in southern IL. Had a good time because of the crew I was riding with. 3/10 would not recommend.
Got it, and makes total sense. I have some friends who ride decent distances but not much interest in a century, so I may not have a crew at all, lol. Will leave this one off the list. Appreciate it!
