Hi everyone! I currently work in an outpatient setting doing individual therapy but am planning to leave my job. I have a handful of patients, some of which have been meeting with me consistently for over 2 years, that I suspect will want to remain in touch after I leave. Has anyone ever done this before? If so, what did it look like for you and the patient? Or do you advise against it and if so why? I’ve been researching this and can understand both sides of the argument. Thanks in advance!

Yes! I’m careful about reading the non compete carefully but have picked up several as clients. A few have remained personal friends. I’m in speech therapy though, for kids, so it’s a little different. I’m a big believer that boundaries are defined by each individual not some blanket policy. And boundaries can be different for each client. I always have the discussion openly with them about what we both prefer and need the relationship to look like. That way it’s all transparent and clear. Mutually communicated boundaries :-)

like

Awesome! That’s up to the both of you, then. Do each of you WANT the same thing? If you both do then definitely have the chat about boundaries and pros/cons, risks & benefits of remaining as friends. If ONE of you is not comfortable with that then say you have a boundary that needs to stay professional. You don’t have to give any other reason if you don’t want to. Same rules as any other human :-)

I’ve been saving a lot of money since quarantine started (mostly involuntarily, there’s not much to spend on). I’ve got 6 car payments left on my 2019 VW (it’s a good car, I expect to keep it for another 3 years at least- only 6000 miles on the clock)

Should I go ahead and pay it off right away? The APR is 0%, so I’d not be saving anything in interest payments, but I’m not investing my recent savings in anything (I might need the money if I’m laid off). WWYD?
