I did when I was pregnant I literally had a panic attack in the bathroom. It was worth it. Luckily I was on leave for like almost a year when I went back I was laid off but poured all my energy into my son found a job 6 months later and I love it. I’m supported not too over worked best decision if you feel like it would be tough to come back just start applying and go on leave
Following^
In the process of applying for short-term disability insurance to cover a leave of absence. Not planning on coming back, but we’ll see.
I have been thinking about it too! How does one do that? Do you get paid while on leave? Family health act?
Same! I’m applying through FMLA along with short term disability. The process he’s actually been pretty easy. I got my psychiatrist and therapist on board. I applied through a portal (a 3rd party company handles all leave requests at my company). someone from there called to get details w/in 3 business days. And they coordinate with my providers to get the documentation. If you look at the FMLA requirements they aren’t difficult to meet as long as you do have a mental health condition that prevents you from carrying out your job tasks. Severe stress can absolutely fall into that category. I’m not planning on returning to work but a caveat: depending on your company, if you don’t return fo at least 30 days after leave, they may be able to charge you for the portion of the health insurance premium they paid on your behalf during your leave.
I didn’t know this was a thing.
Somebody on my team did a few years ago. It seemed to help them tremendously when they came back.
Oh and they did it like two months into me starting the job so it wasn’t me who drove them to that.
I am out of work. But want to understand, what are you going through that is stressing you so much that you would need a pause? What is stressing you all out so much? For me, the most stressful gigs are when people on my team are mean, disrespectful, and just don’t treat me well. I guess some people are just like that. Or get like that if they have too much to do, and not enough time to think before they speak? I have seen a producer pile on an impossible deadline on the shoulders of an animator bc she promised the client an unrealistic deadline. Is this the type of stuff that’s making you want to take a break? Just asking bc it feels pretty hard to get in, once out.
So I’m right… I understand “toxic” to mean people treating you and others poorly. I have spent decades swallowing my words and acting like toxic behavior is just them, and has nothing to do w me. I wish I had started young at trying to get good at speaking directly to people in the moment they are being inappropriate. A life skill I don’t have.
Also, if you are fainting, time to call in sick for a few days with a “bug you must have picked up somewhere,” and spend half those hours reaching out to anyone else you may want to work for. Let them know you are ready for more growth. No need to mention the A holes making you faint. Spend the other half of that time resting.
For a day because I had a panic attack. My boss was understanding.
Sometimes I think about when I’m crossing the road, if a car hit me, I could get sick leave approved so I don’t have to work
