I didn’t receive any accommodations, but my practice group is pretty relaxed with working remotely if needed, adjusting working hours, business casual attire unless meeting with clients, etc.
Even though I don’t have much to advice to give either your specific question, just wanted to wish you the best of luck with your journey! It can be tough, but it was not as bad as I expected. Other than one or two days that were really bad hormonally. The worst part of it for me was the bloating. If you do have to go into the office, I would make sure you have some comfortable, lose-fitting clothes to wear
I agree with this entirely. I didn’t ask for any accommodations, but did take off entirely on my retrieval days and the day I got the results from my implantation (which were negative). When I took bereavement leave for the pregnancy loss, nobody in my office that I hadn’t explicitly discussed things with even had a clue I was trying to get pregnant, let alone going through anything as intense as IVF.
I did three retrieval rounds and didn’t get accommodations for any, but my firm is chill about wfh and casual dress. First cycle was very manageable with minimal side effects, but each subsequent cycle I felt the side effects of the meds more—part I think the hormones/stress accumulated and part my meds protocol was changed to be more intense for final round.
I don’t have personal experience but others have posted about taking intermittent short term disability for IVF and I regret not doing that for my third round. Hoping you are one retrieval and done and it goes smoothly for you!!
I did not get any specific accommodations, but before doing IVF we had a number of pregnancy losses and I wish I would’ve taken more time off. There’s definitely tpressure in this industry to just power through these kind of things, but it’s really not necessary. I took off the time I felt I needed during IVF, worked remote a lot, and ended up sharing what was going on with key shareholders in my group. They were really supportive and it was a non-issue during my year-end review that my hours were low because everyone knew it was going on.
