Just say no and let someone else who wont complain about being in the office take it 🙋♂️
Take the gig. Negotiate the work from home once you establish
That’s a pretty big risk to take. If they’re already at 3 to 4 days, they might go to five days soon.
Just curious …what region are you located and what’s the new role? Is the new role at a much higher level? A 200k hike is pretty amazing!
How much does your wife make? Really depends on that number to better understand how life changing this increase really is for your family vs the hit on lifestyle change.
Wooow what does she do for a living?
LOL. I am completely against in office, but a 200k hike would definitely make all my complaints go away. In practive I think the RTO have overreacted and Im betting that by the end of 2026 well see a correction towards more of a hybrid setup
UPDATE:
Still going through the interview process but it looks promising so far.
Also - there are travel weeks so every week isn’t local. It’s at a company in consulting that’s very “eat what you kill”.
I’m really torn. I keep thinking to myself how unhappy I would be:
- commuting 60–90 mins depending on traffic
- not wearing comfortable clothes (I HATE wearing chinos and a button down)
- not hitting a workout mid-day when I have a gap in my schedule
- spending most of Sunday depressed because I have to go into an office
I’m just not a corporate hardo. I do have a desire to do something on my own in 3-5 years, so maybe taking this now gives me the financial flexibility to do something? I don’t know in my ideal world I’m using most $$ to create passive income so I could do my ultimate dream:
- whatever I want to do and not have to work a traditional job.
Also, my wife will make between $1.5-3m this year not counting RSUs (enterprise software sales - she’s a KILLER) so I’m torn. Because our monthly burn right now with the 2 kids is like $20k and that will go down next year when 1 of our kids goes to public school. So if we did this for 3-5 years and even went to a $25k burn to have some more help, we could retire in 3-5 years as we’d be investing roughly $2m per year post tax.
What’s the role? I am with you on staying put for remote reasons as in similar situation but that’s such a huge comp difference idk if it can be turned down
Feel the same way!
If you think those comp targets are realistic, then you have to take the role. The comp is just too good.
Depends on commute distance, if you make enough and your wife does not want to travel as much, she can back off some, and be home more with y’all.
She makes more than I make and would make at this job.
EY what’s the role and if I am qualified, can you be my referral? I will relocate and work 5days in the office.
Sorry fam ASU isn’t gonna fly!!
Jk lol but no I will not refer you.
