Have any biglaw traditional labor attorneys gone in house? I almost exclusively practice labor (very little employment), and haven't seen in-house roles like that (other than roles that don't require a JD and would be a steep pay cut).

I interned at a labor union and they had in-house counsel. Maybe that is an area to look into?

That's great to hear. I'll look into it.

Amazon had a ton of traditional labor corporate counsel positions less than a year ago. The roles are definitely out there.

Large companies with unionized workforces and municipalities tend to have traditional labor roles.

The automotive industry probably isn't doing a lot of in house hiring right now, but if you're up for moving to Michigan, there's work in house on the management side there, assuming the domestic auto industry survives this administration. The jury's out on that.

What do you do when you feel the goalpost has been/is being moved re: billable requirements? Like there's a spoken vs unspoken? I chose this job based on billables vs salary and what I'm being told I'm expected to do now is 20-30% (at least) > than what was initially agreed upon. Given my other life responsibilities, this is creating a huge strain & I feel like this is slowly getting harder & harder on my spouse & kids. I'm grateful to have lots of good work but not sure how to course correct.

I’ve recently started work at a very young tech startup. Coming from a big law background, this was a huge change of pace/environment. I’m having a lot of trouble getting used to how unstructured the startup is. It feels like hire ups give a set of instructions then talk as if they don’t remember, or then decided rules A, B, C and D applies without being clear this was the case. Is this just the general startup environment? If you experienced this before, how did you deal with It?

I’ve been interviewing for new positions to leave PA. But in my current position, we’ve been adding quite a few new projects (and our team is partner, two staff, and me) that will probably start over the next couple of months. I don’t think my boss has any idea I’m looking to leave - anything I should do to not feel guilty about potentially leaving them short staffed with a ton of work? Is this something you think about when looking to leave?
