Since 2015, anyone in Japan dumb enough to become an advertising creative is wisely encouraged to commit harakiri.
I worked in Thailand. Its international ad culture u will find Brits, Aussies, and Europeans. I have a friend who works there. Its cool! If u can go, go for it. Working abroad to me is a perk of advertising.
I did too! It was a great adventure. Highly recommend working anywhere abroad.

Have not worked in Japan but have worked with a Japanese team or two. High level it is very hard to get direct feedback. You will be politely told to your face everything is good, then once removed that everything is wrong. After a year plus of this sort of back and forth I was told (rightly or wrongly) that this sort of interaction is built into the culture. Is it always like that? Could not say but I have heard similar stories.
