Have not given notice yet, but it’s hard to stay motivated. I turned in an assignment to the partner and he said I had some glaring mistakes. I don’t want to burn bridges. How do people stay motivated during the conflicts period?

The world we inhabit is very small and you do not know where you or the people you work with currently will end up. Do your best to leave with a good reputation, you will almost certainly interact with these people again in your career.

This is the best advice. I lateraled to another firm at one point and within a few months I was staffed on a deal where I was across from a partner I did a ton of work with at my old firm.

Put it out of my mind and keep working on what's in front of me.

Think about what happens if the next place ends up being worse. Grass is truly not always greener. I'm not saying that's what will happen, and I truly hope it won't, for you. But you always want to leave with the door still open in case you ever want to return. And also, this industry is small and you're not unlikely to cross paths with these people again. Your work product is your reputation - take pride in protecting it.

This is correct.

A director in another unit wants to meet me to “continue a conversation we started last year”. He is referring to the time I had asked him if there were openings on his team. That was over a year ago. I am not too happy where I am right now ( I stayed where I was). I also don’t know if he really has an opportunity or if this is just some corporate circle jerk where my current director is trying to “smoke me out”. I don’t speak poorly of my team/work. How would you approach this conversation?

Why do many associates at top tier firms stay to make Partner when they can go in-house in tech and make around the same, even long term? For example, you can make near 400-550k in-house at Google, Netflix, FB with 8-10 years of exp. More senior than that in-house, it can easily break $1M.

When should a stub start getting worried about not having much work and low billable hours?
I’ve asked for work but no luck. I know they say this is normal for a stub but when should I start getting worried and consider looking for exit options? Fyi, I like my practice group, so I don’t want to change to a different group within my firm, hence would have to lateral, if I have to. Also, other co-1st years are churning in high hours.
