Finance/other transactional lawyers: how do you fit in exercise to your day? I’m a 3rd year and struggling. Currently doing 10-12 hours chargeable/day.

The only way I’ve been able to do it is early in the morning. I’ve got two kids as well, so my goal is 3 good workouts a week. I wake up at 5:45 to get to the gym at 6 when I’m not up too late. I can usually get to bed at a decent hour if I’m not around a signing or closing. When I’m up late and miss a workout, I try to fit something in during my day, whether it’s walking on a treadmill or push-up complex.

Thank you - I’ve some friends at other firms who try and start v early also. I may have to rejig my work patterns

So I struggled with this for years until I let go of any exact expectations and just made the rule two times a week. No matter what, I peel out 35-60 minutes and hit the gym at any given opportunity. Doesn't have to be a particular time or particular day. As long as it's twice. I've had tremendous success with it.

I have also had better luck with an approach like this, especially when working from home (gym in building). I am just not a morning exerciser/morning person. Anyway, I have had luck finding pockets of time midday, late afternoon and at night.

I have a senior who has a peloton in his apartment. He blocks time in the middle of the day to try and jumps on it (like around 4pm). He sometimes takes calls with juniors (not clients or partners) while on the bike. Hero!

The only time I can consistently fit it in is in the morning. Similarly to above, I’ve found I can often get to bed by 11 if I don’t have anything truly urgent going on - people that send random emails at 11:30 will get a response in the morning. When I’m really busy I sometimes wake up and work from like 6-8, then workout 8-9. It’s helpful to be in NY where a lot of people don’t work till 10 am

Either early morning or during lunch. I also don’t do long workouts - just a quick 20 minute run or HIIT workout or spin on my peloton 4-5x a week. I try to eat as clean as possible (but yesterday was rough and finished off a bag of chips lol)

I do peloton classes when wfh. When I randomly find myself with 10 or 15 min free, a quick strength class. Ideally I work out for 45 min 3x a week but these fast pops during the day are better than nothing

What's your preference for plaintiff's side? Steady pay at approximately $120k with no bonuses, or a base salary of $70k plus a cut of what you close over a minimum threashold? Midwest-ish market. In both situations, you get a cut of what you bring in.
