Because it’s hard to get those really coveted, high paying jobs….?
Well, I said “over” not “only.” And I am convinced you’re a troll. So bye! ✋
They make way less money
In house in tech making $1m. Husband will make almost $3m as a first year equity partner. His life sucks a lot more, but will make more than he would ever make in tech except as a GC.
LOL there’s liken 50,000 lawyers in biglaw. There’s not 50,000 lawyers working in tech pulling $400-$500K. You’re a damn fool.
I don’t think that’s the right standard to judge this. You should look at comparable openings. There are as many high tech legal openings right now that pay the above as there are big law mid/senior level lateral openings many many regional markets. Thinking about it makes sense bc it accounts for the fact that most lawyers can work at firms in the state they are barred but you can work in-house without being barred in the state where you work.
Well as I said, that’s what they make and that’s my understanding of what biglaw pays. What am I missing?
Yep - see my comment above.

What’s Amazon pay like these days?
Lower end of FAANG but backloaded equity. Less front end but if you stay all 4 years could be comparable to above numbers
Where are you getting these figures from? Way off.
Interviews and working at them. Maybe not Amazon and Apple, but Google, FB and Netflix pay this.
You get much less in-house at Pharma/biotech.
Actually many life sciences pay top of in-house market for more junior-mid lawyers
This is also really only applicable for corporate attorneys in my experience. Big tech not doing much litigation hiring unless it’s IP.
Litigation background is valued for some legal roles like product counsel

Not every biglaw attorney does tech transactions…? If you’re in a certain niche, those jobs are available (and I do think you’re on the high end - Amazon certainly does not offer that high for every in-house position). For most of us, they are not. Even if you’re a corporate attorney, there’s a lot to corporate work beyond tech and obviously big tech wants to hire biglaw attorneys with big tech experience over general corporate.

I mean sure, FAANG is more “prestigious” in that my relatives may have heard of it, but does it matter? Comp is king.
In house positions are less likely to offer full remote options. Not everyone can move to wherever the market is.
