Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

It's very usual to negotiate a salary. I'd go as far as to say most companies worth their salt would anticipate it if they're after commercially minded staff. To undercut a new staff member puts the company on a bad footing from.the start...it's not a way to motivate people at all.
I know the job market is wild, but that's a massive red flag for me. I'd be running a mile. It comes off disorganised and sneaky/back stabby.
This seems unwise from both sides.
Some bad feelings seem likely to persist.
WOW. I haven't ever heard of them coming back with a lower offer than the first. That is so shady!
I had a friend who had a pulled offer but what you describe is wild. I would have anticipated the employer going back to the original offer.

I have never had someone withdraw an offer because of a re negotiation, I would take this as a learning opportunity for the next round of negotiations
I would say in this market it could be common. Don’t be too pushy!
That doesn't surprise me in this job market. I have heard of job offers being rescinded after negotiation efforts, but not receiving a lower offer than the original. I guess that's what happens when you show you are desperate. In this economy, take what you are offered as long as it is somewhat fair.
