I just started at a new firm 3 months ago. A big jump for me with 1,800 billable hours. I feel like I’m drowning trying to make the hours :( I am exhausted at the end of every day. Does it get easier?

My client’s video was aired on television without a license. The video’s use does not fall within fair use. The production company removed the video from its website once they were informed in order to mitigate economic harm. Can my client bring an action? If so, what can he seek in monetary damages? Any insight would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Question: the guy I’ve been dating for a while is a little awkward with pda & stuff. I try to be understanding & respect boundaries ( so not too much pda and stuff) specially around his friends. My question is this weekend he has a get together at his house & he told me his friends are flying from out of town. Initially I had family plans for this weekend & told him to do his thing. But earlier this week my weekend freed up for a day & i want to go to his party but he didn’t want me to …cont

Do any of ya’ll consult on the side? I’m curious (1) if people have found discrete types of work that can be handled outside normal work hours, and (2) if they coordinate with firms as outside counsel for a few extra hours.

My Shareholder came into my office yesterday and proceeded to tell me that "we" were getting sloppy & "we" needed to get our billable up and that she had missed things. She made a point to say hers were low & she never gave me info regarding billable time. Our biggest client cuts half our time.
During the interview they never mentioned there were billable req.
1 month ago she was singing my praises. Had been real sick last 2 months and went to HR re med accommodation and now this.

I have over 20 YOE and have worked in NJ all of my career. I was just approached about a great position in NY. The position is offering 10- 40K plus ample overtime.
I’m concerned about the transition; not used to commuting or being in the office everyday for that matter. I’m currently working a very flexible hybrid schedule. My thoughts: 10K more not worth considering; 20K more I will listen; 40K more I will jump. Thoughts? Has anyone ever made this type of transition in their 40s?

Accepted a job in NYC and looking to move! Any advice and apartment recs? I’m moving from MD and looking for apartments in Newark, Jersey City, Bayonne, etc.

Anyone in the South Florida area looking to make a move? My firm is hiring a litigation/employment paralegal, hybrid schedule.

I need help with Christmas gift ideas for the other paralegal in our office. It’s only the two of us, and I’ve been at the firm for 4ish months. We have a good relationship so far, but feel like I’m still too new to know what she’d really like.

So I have a phone interview coming up for a new paralegal position. I am nervous. Any pointers you could give. I guess it should be less stressful since it is on the phone.

Does anyone work for Foley & Lardner? Specifically their Real Estate Practice? How is the culture?

What does everyone here to do to maintain work-life balance as a paralegal? I know it's a little bit silly of a question, but I am sincerely asking for advice.

With the understanding that as paras there is some amount of drafting involved, how many paras here are asked or tasked to draft pleadings including motions? And do you feel comfortable doing so as in do you believe it’s a task incumbent of attorneys or is it fine if paras do it?

Does anyone have advice on how to keep track of cases? I am 6 months in at a small med/insurance firm. When we are assigned cases by clients, it's my job to request and organize the medical records. We're starting to get dozens of COVID cases, in addition to regular litigation cases, and I am SO OVERWHELMED. I'm currently in a "paralysis-over analysis" stage and don't know how to get myself out of it. I feel like I'm drowning, help.

Hello everyone, nice to meet you all . I hope y’all are having a great weekend. I just want to asked how hard was it to get first paralegal job? I’m a new graduate have been actively searching since May to no avail . I previously took classes in real estate, New York civil practice, litigation, family law and business law. How as a new graduate do I turn all my knowledge into an opportunity? Any help from fellow paralegals is welcome. Thanks .

Do any of you have the title “paralegal” but no paralegal certification? I do a lot of actual paralegal work but not sure if it would be looked down upon to use that as my title on LinkedIn/email signature.

(My company doesn’t really assign titles btw - my boss calls me his paralegal)

Ok need some advice-I’ve been at my firm for 8 months supporting the same attorney since day 1. About 3 weeks ago a new associate started and I’m her main support also. I want to get her something for Christmas but I know very little about her lol. She’s in her late 20’s, very stylish, single. I also don’t know what a good amount to spend is. For reference we are in a suburb of Syracuse, NY, we represent school districts and my salary is $42,000/yr. Any tips would be awesome!!

You ever showed up to your new job with a box of personal belongings? Anyone look at you weird for it?

Any paralegals here who used their legal experience to pivot into other roles? What do you do now?

Anyone working on their JD part-time while working as a paralegal? What advice would you give your former self who was considering that path? I am struggling to decide whether I could handle the intensity for four years.

Anyone whose role is a Contract Analyst, how would you describe your experience learning the ins and outs of contract work? I come a litigation background and have an interview for a Contracts Analyst position that I’m interested in, but unsure of what to really expect from the role…I draft boilerplate pleadings regularly so I assume it’s similar? Any insight would be helpful! TIA!

I’ve been working as a paralegal for a month and I’m still trying to figure things out. Everything from learning protocols to understanding how each attorney works. I try not to be so hard on myself and take this time to learn what I can.
To ease my mind a little bit, how long did it take you to learn/know your job?

I have a total of 12 months of experience as an IP paralegal. The first 6 months were with a global law firm and the second 6 months were with a famous retail company. I am currently working with an agency that would like to assign me to a company that is in need of an IP paralegal for a total of 6 months. My current salary with the agency is £35k (based on my current experience) but I would like to ask for more money before I accept this new role. Please advise how much money I should ask for.
