Taking a structured and planned day off is one of the best things you can do. If you are within bounds to take a day, do it. Randomly calling off can be a slippery slope, so I would just be mindful of it.
Yea I agree, calling in sick for it causes disruption to your colleagues who have to pick up the slack. They might be feeling stressed and also and could do with a day off.

Sometimes it is needed to avoid being burn out, whether this be work related or personal life. I feel like sometimes all you need is a day to either rest, re-set and just feel a bit of pressure taken off you if you feel snowed under. Honestly it depends what works for everyone, as that could help some but not all.
Its probably better to take one day off then to hold off and before you know it, you're doctor os signing you off sick because you let it go too far.
Absolutely. How can you perform if you are drained overwhelmed or anxious?
Mental health days are absolutely valid. I've taken them myself, and they’ve helped me reset and show up better both at work and at home. Prioritizing mental well-being isn’t an excuse, it’s essential in my opinion.
