Could be a mix of both.. AI is moving insanely fast, and leadership in a place like Meta has to be nonstop pressure. Maybe she got a better offer, or maybe the internal politics weren’t worth it. Hard to say without more details, but I wouldn’t be shocked if burnout played a role too. What’s your take?
Coach
That's true the pressure must be insane
I read something in her statement about creating space for others and taking time to reflect which seems to me like she may be seeking a more balanced or fulfilling path, especially as leadership roles in tech are increasingly stressful. I'm sure there was burnout or a desire for a change of pace involved.
Coach
Thats very understandable
They probably bait and switched her
Coach
Is Meta known to do that?
Could be a bait and switch like @Analyst said.
Though a better opportunity may have presented itself, most likely she was told to step down.
I never known anyone at that level/pay grade or above to willingly resign without pressure from leadership.
Coach
Maybe she wasn't performing
It could be any number of things. Maybe the stress was leading her to burn out, maybe she didn't like the direction they were moving in, maybe she just fell out of favor with Zuckerberg. I'm guessing we'll never truly know. I can't imagine how high-pressure that role must have been. Seems like it'd be worth it for a few years, but I don't know if I could keep up that pace for much longer than she did.
Coach
It's also the year of efficiency from Zuck and maybe he wasn't giving any leeway
Coach
Zuckerberg is known to be ruthless and he probably set some unrealstic expectations
My guess is she isn’t aligned with Zuck or Meta’s plans for AI generally.
At that level it’s not about the money. Or even the stress of keeping up with tech - she accepted the job knowing the expectations.
She’s playing with a product that could significantly impact billions of people’s lives. It could be a values decision.
