Rising Star
Disclaimer: I go multiple times a year.
Skip woodford, waste of time. Get lunch at Willett. And make a stop at BBC in Bardstown. They also have a great restaurant.
Another experience I really enjoy is Pursuit spirits in Louisville. There’s one called the Whole Shebang where you get to blend your own bottle. It’s basically unlimited pours for like two hours. Great time haha
I would also not waste any time bottle hunting. Prices in KY are sky high. If you see anything cool at the distillery, buy it but don’t expect to find anything crazy because the locals spend their entire time doing exactly that and it makes it hard for the visitors.
The best way to do Kentucky is to spend time at the distilleries and visit the bars where you can try stuff you won’t see anywhere else. For example, Neat in Louisville and Bardstown. It’s a dusty bar. You’ll drink stuff that basically spent exist anymore. Evergreen Nulu and Bardstown for the typical Tater level stuff like weller or whatever.
Castle & Key has a cool location and it’s near Buffalo Trace. Worth checking out if you have time.
I like the Old Forester tour in Louisville the best, not for their bourbon (not my fave - I barely even like it) but the mini cooperage they have there is really cool, just call ahead and make sure you go on a day it’s operational.
I’ve heard great things about Castle & Key. I’ll try to get that one penciled in.
And TY to A1. Sounds like I’ll need to plan another trip in the future and go a more nuanced route to have the full experience.
