Hello,
I am feeling emotionally exhausted at my job, even though it’s only been three months. The role looked different on paper, and I’ve realized I’m not passionate about this area. I also feel micromanaged, which has affected my confidence.
I recently moved to a new city in California and still need to retake the CA Bar exam. I know this is temporary, but adjusting has been tough, especially with a year-long lease.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I am really sorry to hear that. I have definitely been in your shoes before. I would suggest looking for something else. Life is too short to be in a role that you aren't passionate about.

Thank you, I appreciate that so much!

Hello! I’m planning to move to CA to pursue entertainment law and I’m so scared for the adjustment period. I’m scared I also won’t like it as much as I’ve envisioned, specially because moving is a huge investment. I’ll pass on what a friend told me last night: moving and starting over in a new place is an uncomfortable period, but time passes and you adapt, and at some point, things click. You find your people and a world of opportunities opens, even if it’s not turning out how you envisioned. Whether what clicks is that you you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be or that this path is not a path you want for yourself, the important thing is to follow through; to give it a real chance and, if you ever determine this isn’t for you, then at least you tried and you’ll work it out. Some people don’t even try, so give yourself some grace and give it some time. Hope it all gets better for you!

That's wise advice! Thank you so much! Yes, I will keep on trying!

Feeling burnt out and unmotivated with agency life. Throughout the past year I’ve been added to a variety of “problem accounts” with challenging, disorganized and rude client contacts. Since then, it feels my teams have dwindled and I’ve been left to pick up the pieces / manage it all. I’m struggling to feel inspired and am starting to dread my work. Any tips for how to initiate account changes without sounding whiny? Or - any tips in general?

We have motion sensor lights in my office and the sensor is far from my desk. Consequently, if I'm on a long WebEx, the lights go out and it's embarrassing. The building won't change the sensor. Advice Request: Started my career litigating. Switched to niche transactions (so about half and half at this point). Halfway through a year long sabbatical and reevaluating what I want to do (left before jumping to Senior associate). I’d like to get into litigation again in a practice group I don’t have experience in. Any suggestions on how to do this? How to approach firms and partners etc? Past 2 firms on my resume are top 30.

I am a new (lateral) associate at a small firm where everyone currently works from the office. When I started, I wasn’t told specific firm hours. I’ve tried to figure out when to come and go based upon when the partners arrive and leave, but their schedules are very inconsistent. The other associates don’t have helpful guidance for me. Transactional associate. Lateraled 6 months ago and one of the biggest pain points has been my new firm’s inclination to “hop on a call”, which of course requires every single stakeholder to join.
