Not trying to discourage you but you’re gonna have a very hard time finding anything in the loop for $1200. There’s a Modera on Washington that might get you close but I would bet you’re going to have to raise your budget or move outside the loop. Best of luck 🙏🏼

This is just a poorly informed view. Here are four nicer apartments within OPs budget. Two might bump above 1200 with fees, but one is a luxury building (The Rice) and another is a 1BR.
Skyhouse is your best bet. It’s on main and is walking distance to the tunnels that lead to the Deloitte building. Avoid Houston house at all costs it is a shithole.
I was new last year and $1200 was my ideal budget as well, but I had to up it to $1500. You can definitely find something for that, but $1200 is going to be extremely difficult, if not impossible.
Try Encore Montrose or The Ashton!
I would say look at 150 Sabine and Houston House
Look on Zillow Rentals too - smaller buildings in Montrose are more likely to fit what you’re looking for to get a cheaper place that won’t have the amenities that push rent higher (eg pool, gym, in unit W/D)
When you say max budget 1200, does this mean including everything or just base rent 1200? Apartments add a few fees which take rent up by $100(amenity, water, trash etc.). Then your electricity will be probably average of $80-$100 per month! Could be that your apartment only allows for certain wifi which could be another $60-$90! I guess you get the point... Just make sure you are considering all these additional costs. I have often seen folks complaining about what they are eventually paying!
If you’re interested, my apartment is having a special where your net effective would be about $1250/month, if you’re interested, shoot me a DM
Try Avalon square Apts on Westheimer - good for start.
My building has specials that might get you close to your range. Feel free to DM
Check out Smart City Apartments • HTX on IG, they should be able to help you out!
You're going to have to compromise between quality and distance. I rent out my unit for half that price, but it is ideal for remote workers as it takes me about an hour to hit downtown.
I would seek an apartment locator service, they are usually free to you, and can help you find those older hidden gems in midtown or montrose that are cheaper.
