I recently left K-12, taught 1 semester of college classes, then was offered a position in our state's Bureau of Investigation training law enforcement. It's still considered teach9ng but it's 9-5, pays better, and teaching without all the drama.
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing
I was teaching high school Math. I was (maybe was too cocky despite other things) contemplating leaving after realizing this year I was able to fully cover 4 units (5 different ways!) in one semester instead of 12 last year... It has changed. Honors classes are the only that I regret loosing (they were thirsty for more and more knowledge and loved my straightforward style of "no sugarcoating the reality").
I don't feel comfortable teaching those who don't want it. I love teaching though. You must be humble, but I had no life, and ended up tutoring my school kids after work. I had no life. I am now tutoring in 3 different places, with option to substitute for three different agencies. I offered free tutoring to the kids from the school after leaving. I also teach the court programs and give back to the city. I volunteer.
I have a full life, with workouts, skiing, biking, swimming, concerts, traveling, and doing what I love: pass my knowledge on.
Good luck.
I love that! Thank you for sharing!

Look into museums/national parks/state parks.
They often have educational programs. You can scratch the itch to teach without the stress that goes into being in charge of a classroom.
Thank you! I'll look into it!
Rising Star
Teaching virtually is still happening. Did it part time for five years to supplement.
There are educationally related fields like student fundraising and student travel where classroom experience is valued. That was my planned fallback gig.
Check corporate training and education as well as instructional design.
I live in the middle of nowhere, but when I travel through metro areas, I see companies that provide tutoring, test prep, and other educational support.
When you search and provide your resume, change your vocabulary to translate teaching related duties and skills into “corporate speak.”
Good luck.
Thank you!
Have you ever thought about looking into substitute teaching? I did that for a while and I actually really liked it. It has a lot of of the elements of teaching but without so much of the pressure.
Thank you! I've subbed before and might consider it again.
Office manager. Teachers are outstanding managers, usually.
I understand the struggles with teaching. I am a high school teacher, but I have also started a career in finance. I still teach, but finance has given me a place of purpose again and I found a home with a really supportive company. If you would be open to a conversation, I would love to connect.
Thank you!
