Help! I just hung my own shingle (literally today) I’m already being inundated with calls! I’m switching from high-end practice in a major city to generalist practice in my rural home town. I have no idea how to price my services. Do you all think that my fellow local lawyers would be willing to share their pricing with me? Alternatively, would anyone in a small town be willing to share your pricing with me? Anything helps. And yes, I know I’m in over my head. I had no idea it would take off.

What practice area? This will also affect the rates you set. There are a few ways to approach it.

This is just some advice. Get an answering service if you’re already inundated with calls. These calls need to get answered, and you should take the stress off yourself so you can focus on doing the work that’s going to generate money and keep your practice open. I waited too long to get an answering service. The peace you feel knowing that you don’t have to catch every call yourself is amazing.

You have to be careful of antitrust issues, could be seen as price fixing.

You should connect with the executive board of your local county bar association. They’d likely be willing to help.

Congratulations!! Definitely a blessing! 6 years later and I’m still struggling with pricing! Good luck!

What state? I’m in a city of 60,000 in Indiana and local rate is probably $330 -340.

Can not speak to pricing bc I’m contingency but check out voice ai. It’s your answer to being inundated.

I’ve typically seen 3-500 in rural areas depending on practice area

Anyone who has started up a side hustle whilst working in consulting - is it generally a good idea to let your employer know or will they make your life difficult/try to push you out if they know?

(Context - I need the extra income to have a shot at affording grad school, I work for a small boutique, job contract was ambiguous on the issue. Side hustle is selling stuff I make as a hobby on Amazon)

Thanks!

Advice for Of Counsel roles? I am of counsel at a firm where I can set my own rate and keep a percentage of collections, which varies slightly depending on whether the client is one I generated or not. Hi. I’m in need of advice and encouragement. I’m currently working as a public defender(2nd year) but I would love to pursue a solo private practice. What is a good way to gain experience in other areas of law as a solo practitioner? What areas of law are best for maintaining a work-life balance?

3 attorney firm. I’ve been here for 6 years and have used Westlaw exclusively. Now we are switching to Lexis because apparently Westlaw is too expensive. I hate change.
