I’ve been riding the pandemic out in Texas—so yes, I’ve been working out of another country.
i have a few korean/asian friends who did that. time diff isnt ideal but the partners/seniors are understanding and try to accommodate too.
I know of two associates working for a NY office out of Spain and Greece respectively. They basically work NY hours though, and have adjusted their sleep schedules.
I’ve been working out of Canada (same time zone, but cheaper)
All, beware the US federal/state and non-US income tax rules that might be in play (e.g.,“source” of income, obligation to file a return, etc.)... 😳
@tax associate damn—nice. I admittedly don’t know anything about SALT. I am working out of a state with no income tax, though, so I knew I’d be fine 😇.
My one question is: my firm is still taking out NY/NYC taxes from my paycheck... will I be able to get refunded on any of that?
I have a large law associate friend who is successfully living and working in the Dominican Republic. Eastern timezone, lower cost of living (school for his kid, housing, transport). There are a couple of Caribbean countries like Barbados offering remote work visas for up to 12 months
I spent a month in Mexico and it was great. Narrowed my AirBnB search to those that demonstrated excellent wifi with reviews confirming the same. Ended up with no time difference.
