I did the PhD dance, and unless you’re obsessed with your field or chasing a specific role that requires it, it’s a long, lonely, underpaid grind. The “Dr.” title felt amazing the first month and very meh after that. Pettiness gets you started, but it won’t fuel you through year four when you’re broke and stressed. Career-wise, it opened some doors, but not enough to justify the debt or delay unless it’s mission-critical. Flex the degree if you love the work, not just the prestige.
Honestly, it depends on what your long-term career goals are. Having a PhD certainly makes it easier to get your work published and taken seriously. But it's a lot of work to get in the first place. Decide if it's worth it for you.
