Long story. If you are in Industry, you have a dedicated office. In consulting, you are on road. One thing is employee employer relationship- google that. Many bodyshops ( gulti Consulting firms) in the name of consulting does not comply to that relationship and does pay you by % cut on billable rates. When you are not billable you don’t get paid. For h1b it should be consistent pay so these firms have developed a way around by distributing pay equally. Some even give you fake pay-slips and make you pay tax out of pocket. Then next tier comes with TCS infosys cognizant etc. The inconsistent pay problem is solved but many places u at 60k salary in sfo but file your LCA at Plano texas. That way you are bypassing prevailing wage law and tax system. Then comes big 4. Good pay, follow all rules and pay taxes for you for each day where you work but they are minority compared to these desi firms and corporates. There is no way USCIS can target companies directly so they target the client vendor model. This means there is a collateral damage of deserving h1bs at big4. Now, for industry its straight forward. If you are at Apple or Cisco. USCIS can pay a random visit and verify. People who sit around you know you and you are easy to trace. One fixed location implies no tax issues too. Thus you are better off in Industry from an immigration standpoint. Moral of the story: our fellow Indians have abused loopholes in the system and should be blamed for this mess.
