It can be hard to pivot when everyone seems to need to see the title on a resume to give you a job. I've found the best way is internally. I've moved from AA to HR, and also from EA to budget analyst, though for that one, having a finance focused MBA was a big help. Both were internal moves.
Have you tried searching for executive assistant or chief of staff roles? Traditionally the EA role pays more than AA and duties are similar. However, it’s also a dead end job. There is no career trajectory for this function any longer. It is not a gateway position anymore as it once was. However, the easiest way to get out of it is to start somewhere as an AA or EA and then slowly migrate into project management or another area thru cross training and networking internally. Once you’ve held another title for at least a year you’d have better luck seeking an opportunity in the new feel externally also.
