Hi all,
I’ve 10+ years experience in accounting/data analysis/management reporting based in NYC. I’m good at wearing different hats, advanced Excel, efficient and organized. I’m also known to be a thorough and patient teacher. I’m looking to transition into a role doing more FP&A with good WLB. Any referrals offered greatly appreciated!

Look and see if you see anything at Optum
or UHG. Great company culture, work life balance is decent, lots of remote options, although FP&A is typically more intense area of finance! Guessing you’d come in at Financial Consultant role.

FP&A hours can really vary from company to company and if you don’t have direct FP&A experience you might not be able to be so picky about where you work or get an offer. Job market is hot though so I’m sure you can find something. My advice is ask how the WLB is. Tell them you’re willing to work long hours when needed but just don’t want to be working every single weekend if that’s the expectation. Expect some groups to turn you down because the second you mention WLB they think you’re lazy lol.

I need some ideas for my last hour class. I teach reading only and I have this class first hour for reading and then last hour again for “communication skills”. I plan on some days doing prodigy, maybe passion projects, and maybe reading groups. This class has a lot of sped kids. By the time last hour comes, they are all over the place. I need things to keep them from going crazy, but want it to be purposeful also. Any suggestion?

I am extremely burnt out. I went to my first trial a few weeks ago and it was two weeks of no sleep and constant berating by the lead counsel. The months leading up to that trial were also very intense. I need a break, but I don’t even know who to talk to about this. I work for a boutique so our HR department is only two people who don’t seem very helpful. But I also haven’t connected well with anyone at the firm (I started remotely during the pandemic). Any advice on how to approach this?

Looking to begin a career in Financial Analytics. I am an Economics major that graduated in Dec 2020. Since then I have been an Operations Analyst at a FinTech company. I also have some past experience as an analyst at a small business lending company in college. I have been applying for jobs for the past ~6 months. I have made it to the final round of a few interviews, but have not received any offers. Does anyone have any advice for me? I would greatly appreciate any insight.

I'm 4 years into my career, currently I work at one of the largest public advisory firms writing research and taking advisory calls with CIOs/CFOs on strategy around IT Cost Optimization, IT/technology finance, benchmarking, budgeting etc. I enjoy the role but fear not being able to do much with this experience. I fear this due to the fact that I simply talk strategy and roadmaps with no technical experience of having ever done these activities myself.

Interviewing for a finance lead position at Gemini. Anyone have insight as to work culture and what a good offer looks like?Gemini

I work in FP&A consolidations at a large sell side bank. I moved internally after working in the planning group of a Working Capital Solutions business. I often feel like I would enjoy client facing or advisory work because it would help me build a skill that could translate to me potentially running my own advisory firm one day… I feel my role just looks at numbers on a page which doesn’t help me develop translatable subject matter skills or expertise. I don’t want to be a robot. Any advice?

Been with company for 2.5 years in a SFA role, and they just let me hire an associate financial analyst reporting into me. My manager never mentioned anything in regards to a promotion, but when I asked, I was told that there will be an evaluation period before any promotion is given. Has anyone else had this before, where you are managing someone but they don’t give you a promotion? Sounds bizarre to me that they allow me to hire someone but then are hesitant to promote.

I went through two rounds of interviews for
a job that the posting stated $36.66 per
hour (FP&A Analyst)…the company
recruiter had told me in the initial call the
pay could be 32-36 because of the other
benefits. If I do get a job offer what range
should I try for? I was really hoping to get
around the 36-40 but now I feel like they
may try to offer lower than what was
posted. Also there was no range but the
average for this position is upper 70s-90k.
Thanks for any help!
