Hi all - just relocated here from Brooklyn. Any recommendations on neighborhoods to live? It’s just my husband and I - mid 30s. Checked out holland village today and I loved the vibe but not the commute. Thanks in advance!

Hello I think you should consider the Clarke Quay / Robertson Quay area and Keppel Bay Area!

Clarke quay is something like Holland village - good bar spots, and it is even closer to the CBD.

Keppel Bay has more chill vibes and is quite close to the sea / Henderson waves park. Close to the CBD but will seem like it’s “away” from the city.

Thank you! I haven’t checked out apartments in that area but will today!

I’m a local and these would be my top choices:

Tiong bahru - compared to Holland Village, it is fairly near to the CBD where all the major law firms are located (only 3 or 4 stops by the MRT, which translates to roughly 10 to 15 minutes commuting time). My personal opinion is that MRT is the best mode of transport in Singapore - more comfortable and predictable than buses, and owning a car is too expensive - therefore would be ideal if you could live near a MRT station. Like Holland Village, Tiong bahru has great restaurants, cafes, bars and other food options. Additionally, there is a famous hawker centre/market which has cheap but tasty food options (think S$5) so you would be able to cut down on living expenses if preferred. There is a nice expat community in the area, including yoga, pilates, gyms, etc. Overall a pretty good choice.

Novena/Newton - beautiful neighbourhood, peaceful, near to CBD, multiple shopping malls in the vicinity. But probably more expensive in terms of rental compared to Tiong bahru. Another great choice.

Outram Park - not bad as well. This is 1 station away from Tiong bahru. Keong Saik road is a big draw with many trendy restaurants, bars and cafes.

Thank you so much! We checked out tiong bahru over the weekend, and it’s definitely on this list! Really appreciate this response.

How’s your search going!

That’s great! Many good spots around the area - hope you’re enjoying Singapore!

Hi all - considering making the move from NY to Singapore biglaw (cap markets/M&A) in the next couple of years. Would love to hear a little bit about lifestyle and work culture at various offices in SG (bonus points for corporate practice). Over here, you always here generalizations about Asian offices being sweatshops but not much firsthand experience. Thanks in advance!
