Hi everyone, I was offered a position of business intelligence engineer. And I am quite keen to transition to the business side, especially something relating to business development or strategy. How likely will I be able to transition with this role? Happy to connect with anyone with similar experiences!

Need to start somewhere.

If you are able to act as that translator and conduit where you can talk to and translate between both audiences (business and technical), and articulate the outputs and meaning of analytical insights that resonate with business stakeholders, that is a tremendous asset that comes with time and experience.

I have transitioned to very different roles internally and I did it by finding gaps/problems in areas that interested me then solving them, even if it was outside of my job duties. Build relationships with decision-makers who have challenges and offer to help solve them (make their job easier, fill the gap). Then you'll have the experience without the title, but I you'll have proven you can do it. I've heard this is called "start doing the job you want before you get it." Of course, you need a supportive work culture that let's you do this and doesn't take advantage of it - so maybe start by talking to boss or other seniors at your company about your ambitions and offer to help with side projects. Thst can transition you into a nee role. It worked for me.

What does "business side" mean to you?

Business executives or other personas that aren't necessarily in Analytics or Technology roles. This is a classic divide in many industries and companies still

Long post alert; I have been interviewing with a b4 for a senior con role since Mar end. Cleared all the rounds including case study and got strong rating as well as good feedback. Fast forward to last week, the talent POC calls me up and informs that she has asked the business if the position is still open, because now they just need the business approval to roll out the offer. I immediately felt demotivated as to ‘why now’ after all rounds have been cleared (continued in the comment below)

Stub year in a free market firm frustrated about hours. Everyone was complaining about being slow last month, but it seems most passed 100 hours and I only got 60. I’ve been doing everything mgmt says to do but I’m making no progress in getting work. I can’t help but think I don’t fit in here and people don’t like me - especially because I went to a lower-ranked school, grew up poor, and am neurodivergent so networking is hard for me. Whole system feels very nepotistic. I just want to give up.
