Facebook (Meta) I have 10+yoe on tech consulting ( sap implementations as functional architect) + Computer science engineering background.
In my role, I sit with business to understand the needs of customers/business and translate it into functional specs which will be then programmed by developers.
Does this tech consulting experience translate to Product manager role at tech firms. If so, which of the tech companies are open to hire consultants as product managers?Amazon Google Facebook Apple

BCG Gamma vs KPMG Lighthouse vs Slalom for DS?
@OP, when you were prepping for the data engineering exam, remember the ML portion? That Level of knowledge is expected from our analytics engineers.
To get a gauge on what foundation we expect from data scientists, take a shot at the Professional ML Engineer certification.
For some roles, that level of knowledge is enough. For higher L-levels (L5 and above), you need to have a solid background in using and applying ML algorithms. If you're aiming for more strategy and Ops roles, you need to have the same in your past plus S&O experience in current/recent position.
Edit: addendum
Just saw you're planning to upskill yourself. Work on the ML cert. That'll give you a very good understanding of baseline and a solid foundation.
Do you know any actual data science/ML stuff?
Yes, I have done some ML projects using deep learning (feed forward backword propagation NN) for hand written character recognition. That was using MATLAB a long time ago. Haven't worked on Matlab since.
In Data science, I have not performed a project as such, but have worked on python libraries to some extent.
This is where I want to focus next and get more data science projects under my belt.
Data science mate
I’m not sure if google has this separation, but Facebook has a separation between hardcore data science (applied scientist, usually masters and PhD) vs analytics (which sounds more aligned with your background). Preparation for the second one is more aligned to what you described, mastering SQL + fundamentals and maybe a take home project. Not too knowledgeable about the research version.
Yes, we have that separation, in all verticals.
I also have a GCP Professional Data Engineer certification(expiring Nov 2022) and want to put it to use while I study and prepare for this role. I believe knowing GCP might put me at a very slight advantage and want to ensure that I can maximize that!
Again, thanks for reading and really appreciate your guidance! 🙏🏼
Last I looked, they didn't really have a DS job. Analyst, quant, or engineer. Maybe some Googlers can confirm available titles and requirements as to difficulty of leetcode, ml concepts, and domain expertise
