MBA level or undergrad? If you’re talking coming in from undergrad, definitely possible. If you are entering from MBA, I’d say it’s near impossible. First step though, sign up for Breaking Into Wall Street and finish the PE and modeling courses. After that, figure out a specific industry and do a few CDD projects in it (should be easy from LEK). Then start networking to break in. DO NOT wait for the recruiters. I did that and got screwed the first go around
Wow I appreciate this a ton! All great insights that I’ll keep in mind going forward. A little hesitant about trying again after business school since the markets are changing so fast and MBAs cost a ton but I’ll start with the WS prep courses and try to work in with the networking. Thanks again! 👏
I understand there are many examples of such transitions in this bowl but I haven’t seen anyone talk about the steps it took/prep. Is it simply building connections with clients, getting good at financial modeling, and building up some sort of reputation? How do headhunters find you and are there gap areas you need to spend time developing outside of work?
