Write emails
Did an entire calculation for me by taking a pdf, turning it into an excel, summarizing the lines, calculating gains/losses using FIFO, calculating net shares, etc (it was for crypto).
Does research for me as a starting point. I then just read the relevant code sections.
Analyze tax treaties.
It’s basically an associate.

That's great just be careful. It's not entirely accurate. Be sure you have some sort of proofs... just like you would have in an Excel worksheet. But that's excellent good for you..

like

Mostly to ask it where something is in the guidance so I can find it faster, or to figure out how to do something in excel

like

I mostly use it instead of a google search for certain topics that are either new to me or for a refresher. I have not tried having it write formulas for me as the need hasn't arisen yet.

like

Huh? Are you missing a word (“use”)?

like

So they weren’t actually referring to ChatGPT as a program? Just general “Generative Pre-trained Transformers”…

Only to right emails when im pissed at the client. “Please write this as professionally frustrated but still nice as possible “ … chat gpt and the client will understand

likefunny

It’s a good thing you’re using chat…

I have asked it to write vba code for Excel. And asked it to write formulas I could use.

Also ask it general questions I can verify elsewhere.

like

I don’t use it

like

There are numerous ways to use it. You have to be creative. Consider it as a new worksheet app. Experiment, however it does make mistakes so like an Excel sheet you must verify. The art of the AI is how well you can ask the right questions

like

You're smart

I ask it for accounting treatment and for principles.

like

Questions for the accounting treatment for certain things and to provide reference to the guidance/codification so I can find it easier. General topics I don’t understand or know about but don’t need huge details on I just ask for a quick summary on xyz to get a base knowledge

This is not about dating, but about family relationships. I live far from my family and provably only see them once a year. They have been visiting for the past month and to go from not seeing them to seeing them so often has been an adjustment. I love them, but get so impatient with them and then I feel so guilty. Anyone else have this complicated dynamic with family?

Are private companies easier to work at than public companies in accounting? We have such an accelerated close deadline at the publicly traded company I’m at now, I really hate the inflexible tight deadlines and analysis seems to drag on forever after that. We also close AP/AR very early in the month yet that doesn’t stop payments/receipts from happening so we’re constantly adjusting our accruals until the end of month. Do private companies start their close after the month actually ends?

I have a tax question. My father in law passed away in 2020 and we inherited his house. We are still in the probate process and we haven't got the house title. However, we have been paying the mortage and interest since we inherited the house. We filed the tax return for deceased person last year. Can we claim the mortgage interest deduction this year on our joint return (even though the 1099 will have my father in law's name)? Really appreciate any help!
