I work in FP&A consolidations at a large sell side bank. I moved internally after working in the planning group of a Working Capital Solutions business. I often feel like I would enjoy client facing or advisory work because it would help me build a skill that could translate to me potentially running my own advisory firm one day… I feel my role just looks at numbers on a page which doesn’t help me develop translatable subject matter skills or expertise. A quick note about what I’ve experienced, in my decade long career, is the real advantage of MBB or FAANG - it gives you a shot at stretch roles that are outside your expertise. Not all the time or even most of the time compared to better candidates with specific experience for the role but gives you this wildcard shot at a vast array of opportunities.
