Hey there! I would just remind yourself that your colleagues are just like you and like to debug things - but can also get stuck.
Make sure to be honest of where you’re at and where you’re stuck. I like to tell ppl I need a fresh pair of eyes to help me with something, or I will say “I have got part x figured out so far, but getting stuck on part b”. Be specific where you need help.
Just know we have all been there :)
There's no shame in asking for help. You mentioned crumbling when you're under pressure. I'm wondering if just knowing and accepting the fact that there is an "out" (in that you can ask for help if you need to), you'll end up doing better on your own. Self-doubt is a powerful thing. Hang in there.
Contrary to Hollywood stereotypes, software engineering is a team sport. :)
That said, I HATE asking for help so I totally get where you're at. I try to give myself a day to figure it out and then ask for help. Then document it in case I run into a similar issue in the future.
Be honest during stand up: "I'm having a road block, if I can't figure it out, I'll be pinging someone for help." and follow through if you're still stuck by your timeout date.
As with anything, it takes practice and I am definitely still learning and getting better. Hang in there :)
You need to be more friendly and trusting. We can’t always pull ourselves out of everything, we often need help.
Agree with all this. Don’t let yourself be stuck for too long. Time box and ask for help.
