When a new type of project comes in and you get assigned as the PM to “figure out” the project plan, how do you go about resource allocation? Sometimes I struggle to know what the team configuration should even be, because we’ve never done said project type before. It’s hard to know what type of people should be assigned, and at what % time, when there isn’t a preexisting process or work breakdown structure for the deliverables I’m being handed to “manage.” How do/would you handle?

Asking this because I've been preparing for CAT this year and I feel like my preparation is only good enough to get me around 90-95 %ile which is not enough to get a call from the top IIMs. I've been preparing alongside my job and its been a tough 3 months. I am working as an Automation Test Lead from 2 yrs. Before that was working as a mainframe dev and total of 9+ YOE. My daily tasks are very mundane and thereby, I am planning to transition to Data science. I looked at various online courses like upgrad, scaler and they are very expensive. Since, I am new to the field, I am assuming it would be difficult to transition without guidance. How is the blackbelt plus program by analytics vidhya? All suggestiins welcome on how to transition.
