Sped classes and teachers are hiding in a corner of the school. Gen ed teachers only see sped dept at meetings.

Absolutely. I have tried everything, but there is ill-will that is residual from last year when I was not there. It's very childish.

When I was at a different school, the gen ed teachers LOVED me. I think it's because I helped intervene in areas they did not see growth in, and they did not have the time or resources to fully provide the intensive intervention needed. I also provided them with resources for their classrooms and was very open with them about why it was an evidence based practice without being condescending.

The first school I was in 5 years ago, the sped department was well respected and appreciated. I’ve been to a new district since then in elementary and middle and they put us off by ourselves, in the dungeon I call it, and there’s definitely a less than viewpoint. It’s not like that everywhere, but it’s a problem in some areas.

Additional Posts in Special Education Teachers

I am looking to find out what your school does with this type of situation. I have an 18 year old student who should have graduated in 2020, but at this time only has a third of the required graduation credits for my public high school. This student has been an EBD student since 1st grade, has an IQ of 96 and has diagnoses of ADHD and Mood Disorder. This post continues on the first comment due to a character limit in this section.

How should I handle a co-teacher who says things in class that are ableist? I don't think she realizes she's doing it, but with more than a few vision or hearing impaired students in her classroom it's pretty noticeable to me. None of them have complained about it, but I doubt they would. I just think sayings like "what are you blind?" are pretty tone deaf when you have vision impaired students. Even if it isn't aimed at them or it's said jokingly.

O am a SPED teacher who was teaching K-4. As of Nov. 28th, my administrator switched me with the other SPED teacher who was teaching middle school. There was no warning. We just got an email on a Sunday. Neither one of us wants thos move. Do we have a legal ground to stand on? We have both been so upset and depressed over this. My students miss me, and I miss them. I taught middle school years ago and was not fond of it. I like the littles.
