How are you guys handling the insane cost of living in finance hubs without living like paupers? My rent has gone up 15% this year, and my salary increase didn’t even come close to covering it. I love my city, but I’m starting to wonder if I’m working just to pay a landlord instead of building my own wealth. Are you guys moving further out, or is there a trick to negotiating a higher cost-of-living adjustment?

My fiancé moved abroad for med school. Long distance is hard but I love my job, the work, the people, and the culture. I wish there were roles where you could work abroad. I wish I could work here forever, but I’ll likely need to switch to a firm that allows working abroad at some point to save the marriage. I’m afraid to tell anyone because I want to maximize my time/contribution here. Thoughts? Advice? Does anyone know of good firms that allow abroad work?

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?
