In consulting? Honestly, it's not that bad. Our demand is very unpredictable, and lots of consulting firms hire full time when they should really be bringing in contractors. As long as you have a couple of fairly recent good references that's all that really matters.

Happened to me. When a better, more profitable opportunity comes along - you will have more regrets not taking it. Especially if the reason is “optics”. 1 year from now, no one will care.
