How big a pay rise would you consider giving up some flexibility for? I’m looking at a role that would be a 30% increase but would also mean I’d need to be in the office 3 times a week (it’s a 2 hour commute and I currently go in once a week)

A 30% raise sounds great on paper, but after taxes, gas, and the toll on your time and sanity, is it really worth it? That commute adds up fast. I’d think hard about whether the extra money truly offsets the freedom and energy you’re giving up.

My salary would have to at least double before I considered lower flexibility. I’m lucky to make enough for my means right now, and I would be hesitant to lose my flexibility

2 hours one-way?? I hate being in the office 3x/week. I wouldn't trade higher pay for it. My kids are more important. Flexibility for them.

30% increase for an extra eight hours of commuting per week seems pretty reasonable to me. While I hate working in the office, I would probably suck it up for 30%. I would also consider moving because a two hour commute each way seems absolutely heinous.

My best friend took a new job with a $20k pay raise, in the office every other week but on phones 100% of the time.

Personally I wouldn’t trade any money for my daily happiness / flexibility. It’s totally up to you and what you’re happy with, but if I had to do a 2 hour commute 3 days a week I know I’d be wanting to be at home instead

I agree with what others have said, I wouldn't want to give up flexibility and working from home. Now that I have seen how my work life balance is so much better, I don't ever want to go back.

Are there any fully remote lawfirms, ie you don't have to live in the state they have offices? I recently left a large lawfirm to go in-house which came with a huge paycut that is not going to be sustainable long term, but needed a remote position to be able to move. I'd like to keep my current job part-time but get back in a lawfirm too.

I’ve noticed on Glassdoor, salaries for my level (Director) are higher than my base but have similar bonus opportunity. At what level of pay gap would you push or make a stink? In hindsight I should have pushed more during the hiring process. At 160k base now, seeing ranges in the 170s to low 180s. These are specific to my current company.
