How desperate am I? I've been unemployed for months, so yesterday I accepted a job that has an hour and a half commute both ways. This commute will likely drive me crazy.

Keep in mind half of that paycheck will be all gas idk where you live but still . That is a lot . But then again you have to do what you gotta do to survive. I don’t blame you . But I I was you I’d keep looking for something closer .

Keep up with the grind. But start applying for jobs as well on the side.

I took a job, my current job, that was 2hrs/way, often hitting 5 hours total, with traffic, 4 days a week (I was told 2 days onsite, they mislead me). Anyway, the drive destroyed my home life, exhausted and hacked-off mostly. But, my pay check keeps us eating ;-). I ended up moving closer too work. For me, it was worth it. Life is better these days. But that commute is unsustainable long-term. Granted, not everyone has the luxury of options. If that drive keeps your family afloat, in this job market, what other choice is there?

I would totally try to hop on a bus route and avoid all that mileage and gas! At least you can spend time on your phone to push out emails and phone calls for leads on jobs. You do what you have to do to survive. Good luck!

I think do it as long as you can to get back into the job market until you find something else. Job gaps are frowned upon, usually.

I praying you find something else soon that is closer, the amount of gas for that commute is going to seriously take away from your paycheck, I hope at least the job pays extremely well.

This forum seriously needs a "Wow" emoji. Wowzers! An hour and a half. Are you driving or riding in on a train?

I found myself in a similar predicament. My commute was an hour and a half, and I endured it for three long years. Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore and quit my job to find a better one. I wish you the best of luck.

Hello Fishes,
I am much stressed.. it’s only been 5 months to join Capgemini. I joined in as cyber security consultant with good package.
However, the work I do the tricks, logics and solutions I share with team to apply in the project… all are of no use when discussed with the architect guy. The whole team rely upon the wordings/solutions suggested by him only. It feels like my skill/knowledge and experience is of no use.
I feel like what am I doing here….? Any suggestions please.

Read that McK is paying 2K higher than BCG this year which means BCG will probably raise again next year to at least match. However, they can’t just copy McK with 2K to match because that would look bad so they’ll have to beat it again. Then McK and Bain will follow. Barring a devastating recession, I’m guessing this means MBB is all getting raises again next year?

Hey Bowl,
I work for a late stage(ipo) start up, earlier this year we were acquired & since then they got rid of our yearly bonuses and gave us an ESOP grant.
2 RIFs later we are almost bare bones. Since we are coming up on our usual yearly evaluations many of us assumed (with multiple conversation from our managers) that pay raises and promotions were due.
In a recent All hands we found out that this year there will be no pay raises nor promotions based off merit. Is it time to jump ship?
