Bill contemporaneous or keep a log (handwritten on a legal pad or in a planner) for a few days of everything you do throughout the day. When you do calls, emails, go to someone else's office to shoot the shit, etc.
I would think that you are likely not crediting yourself for all of the time you are actually working on things. I used to do that as well and once I started keeping a daily log for a few days I saw how much time I was failing to bill for.
A daily log tracking your actions will be a bit annoying at first, but will give you a lot more insight on your days. I still do a shorthand log for busy days, as I hate using my billing system and wait until the end or the day or week to upload my time, but my log is not very detailed or burdensome anymore.
Good tips from P1. Once you get into the habit of writing everything down, sometimes just writing the case/matter name is enough to jog your memory of what you worked on and you don’t need to put every minute task down all day.
Also adding that I think people who bill 200+ in insurance either have a lot of travel time and/or lie. 🙃
Lie & split things up into the absolute smallest tasks you. i.e. when you are going through discovery bill for each separate part of the discovery response or a medical record for instance each separate part of the medical record.
