In the early days of an accountant’s career you do pay the price by doing a lot of the grunt work. More often than not it is not the case of being understaffed. It is more the case of poor design and execution.
Properly designed workflow processes and systems enables staff to do things better and more efficiently. When everyone in the chain does what they are charged to do it is not bad. As an accountant, part of the challenge coming into the role is to design and develop your processes that works best for you.
In a good team, everything works like clockwork. There will be peaks and valleys but never a continuous peak.
Early days in my career it was not unheard of to be working after hours, weekends and holidays (Christmas, New Years, and every other holiday you could imagine). With improvements and better way to handle things it is minimal. No working through holidays, weekends and after hours.
Things do improve over time. Sticking with something and improving the environment is the most important lesson for a young person in the field. It will make you stand out above others.
How busy is busy? Are you working the weekends or till midnight?
Life ain’t easy and ain’t fair .. If only I could have the blessing of having a job in accounting any where … believe me I wouldn’t mind be overloaded .. at least I would have the option to keep looking for another job but there is income flowing..
Unfortunately, accountants are overworked a lot even in the industry. Have over 18yrs exp in industry and saw that a lot. Good luck to find a place 8-5pm or 9-6pm. I never saw it
I just quit a job in accounting due to these exact issues with also being spread so thin.
Are they accepting resumes?
